Country Swing Technique Instructor
Brigham Young University
Serve as an instructor and officer for one of BYU’s largest dance organizations, overseeing instruction, event management, and instructor development while supporting the club’s 400+ weekly participants, 1300+ club members, and 50+ volunteers.
As a volunteer club officer for the BYU Country Swing Dancing Club, I play a key role in leading instruction, event planning, and operational management for a community of over 400 weekly dancers. I teach beginner, intermediate, technique, and line dance classes, focusing on helping students build confidence, connection, and creativity on the dance floor. Beyond teaching, I mentor new instructors through training sessions and pass-offs, helping them refine their technique and develop the teaching skills necessary to lead their own classes effectively.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I manage the logistics behind the club’s weekly operations. This includes assigning instructors, submitting event and financial requests to BYUSA, and coordinating with officers to organize and execute large-scale events such as BYU Date Night with the Reeses, faculty socials, and Instructor Summits—where we train instructors and committee members in advanced swing dance technique. I also collaborate closely with our DJ, social media manager, and audiovisual team to ensure every event runs smoothly—from setup and teardown to projection and video support.
To improve organization and instructor development, I created and maintain several digital tools and databases, including a centralized instructor tracker, sign-up system, and collections for both line dances and swing moves. These systems have streamlined communication, enabled self-paced learning for instructors, and enhanced the overall experience for both teachers and participants.
In this position, I’ve strengthened my leadership, communication, and organizational skills while contributing to a welcoming, high-energy environment that helps hundreds of students learn, grow, and connect through country swing dancing.
